NP1 - NORMANDY / LANDING BEACHES

Landing Beaches, Full day-Guided tour in English and French. The green and peaceful Normandy with its picturesque fishing harbors and its lovely resorts was also the stage of the operation Overlord. At dawn of June 6, 1944, one of history's most decisive battles, led by General Eisenhower, began with the Allied invasion of German-held Normandy. Travel through Normandy to Caen by the Western motorway. Stop for a commented visit, film and lunch at the Memorial -Peace Museum of Caen. The landing beaches: this part of the Norman coast, once defended by the Atlantic Wall, was heroically pierced by the Allies during the landing on June 6, 1944. Stop at Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach. Saint-Laurent- visit of about one hour to the American Cemetery, where 9,386 Americans rest, guarded by the Spirit of the American Youth, a 22 foot-high bronze figure. Next stop is Arromanches, the landing beaches of Gold, Juno and Sword (where the Canadians, French and British landed). Stop on the way back to Paris. Arrival around 9pm. Note : This tour operates in the summer season only, April to October.
